MONETIZING BENEFITS OF RENEWABLES
Photovoltaics and others renewable energy systems can now be compensated for their production through the Renewable Energy Credit (REC) market. REC markets provide an effective market mechanism for monetizing the societal benefits of Renewable Energy through state mandated Renewable Energy Portfolio Standards.
This month's presentation will feature Northeast Sustainable Energy Association board member Fred Unger speaking about the Renewable Energy credit markets and the importance of providing remote real-time data monitoring on photovoltaic and other renewable energy systems for strengthening REC markets as well as strengthening renewable energy markets generally.

CT SOLAR ENERGY EVENTS
SOLAR ENERGY EVENTS TO BE HELD STATEWIDE IN CONNECTICUT
February 23, 2005 - The increased popularity in solar energy, and the financial incentives now being offered in Connecticut to residential and
commercial property owners who install solar energy systems on their buildings, will be discussed during seminars held at libraries and other public venues throughout Connecticut. Solar Energy or Solar Photovoltaic
systems convert sunlight directly into electricity.
Kickoff workshops recently held February 17th in Greenwich, CT and February 22nd in Hartford, CT were very well attended. The events are sponsored by the Connecticut Clean Energy Fund (CCEF) and is are the first of more than twenty similar CCEF-sponsored events being planned by Solar Connecticut, a local organization and a partner in the U.S. Department of Energy's Million Solar Roofs Initiative (MSRI) which aims to install solar energy systems on one million U.S. buildings by 2010. A complete listing of
scheduled workshops can be found online at www.solarconnecticut.org.
At the seminars, solar experts describe how to evaluate whether a solar electric system (or photovoltaics) is right for your home or business and provide information on installing a solar PV system.
A Connecticut Clean Energy Fund representative also presents the Fund's rebates now being offered to Connecticut residents who install solar photovoltaic systems on their homes. The incentives are available only through participating installers that have been designated by Connecticut Clean Energy Fund. The program offers an incentive of $5 per Watt for the first 5kW of system and installation costs, with a maximum rebate of $25,000 per household.
A similar Connecticut Clean Energy Fund program is offered to commercial, industrial, and institutional building owners. More information on the Connecticut Clean Energy Fund's solar PV programs may be found at www.ctcleanenergy.com.
The Connecticut Clean Energy Fund invests in technology to support the creation of supply from renewable sources and fuel cells in order to
strengthen Connecticut's economy, protect community health, improve the environment, and promote a secure energy supply for Connecticut. The Fund, financed by a surcharge on ratepayers' electric utility bills, is administered by Connecticut Innovations.
Announced in June 1997, the Million Solar Roofs Initiative is designed to support states and local communities as they develop a strong commitment to the sustained deployment of solar energy technologies.

SOLAR-CT MEETING
A meeting of CT solar stakeholders to organize regulatory efforts within the state as well as a coordinated strategy for funding outreach efforts and tackling critical market barriers.
The meeting agenda is as follows:
1:00-2:30: Installers and Industry members meeting
2:30-4:00: General Meeting
4:00-5:00: Tour of the 8.6 kW PV project at the West Haven High School. (this will involve driving to the high school which is about 10 minutes away by car.)
Due to daylight savings time, each meeting needs to adhere to a strict timetable, as the West Haven High School tour involves climbing on the high school roof which needs to be done during daylight hours.
The installers meeting will have an important focus on the future of solar in Connecticut; therefore, it is vital that you attend or send a representative from your company in your place. Discussions will be held on the following topics: The organization of a working group of SEBANE which will address critical regulatory issues in Connecticut and changes regarding the general direction of SolarCT.
The general meeting will involve an introduction to the high school project, additional discussion of SolarCt activities, updates from the Clean Energy Fund, and a question and answer period.
We are expecting to have the West Haven mayor and school superintendent in attendance.
